Career Start

Zeigler's songwriting reflects a personal life where the focal point is on family, place and community, highlighting the universal emotions we all work through as we experience love and loss. Raised in Vermont, she moved to Boston in the early ’90s to pursue her dream of becoming a performing songwriter in the era's new folk movement. Her crystalline vocal style, distinctive songwriting, and unique use of open tunings were quickly recognized, and she signed with Rounder Records less than a year later.

Her 1995 debut CD was released to critical acclaim. The Boston Globe called it “a star maker debut,” and it reached #1 on national folk radio. She went on to release three more independent albums, each reaching #1 on national folk radio playlists, while also becoming a mother to two young children.

At the height of her career in 2006, Diane stepped away from music entirely after welcoming her third child with husband, bassist and songwriter Geoff Sather, whom she met during the heyday of Boston’s ’90s folk scene.

Back To The Music

In 2026, when her youngest entered college, Zeigler began writing songs again and is now back to performing and is planning a new album. Now, after nearly two decades away from the stage, Diane is back—with a lifetime of stories, new songs to share, and the voice of a songwriter whose own story is still unfolding.
